About Us
The National Dried Fruit Association (UK) Ltd was formed in 1956 from an amalgamation
of five former associations.
Today, the association comprises 43 members - ranging from major household names to smaller importers and packers who sell directly to the trade. In 1993 the National Dried Fruit Association and Producing Countries set up the Dried Fruit Information Services (DFIS) which was established to help promote sultanas, raisins and other dried fruit as healthy and ideal for use in savoury recipes as well as being ideal as confectionery and snacks. The Dried Fruit Information Service helps to promote the consumption of dried fruit both to consumers and manufacturers. For the consumers the Dried Fruit Information Service has produced leaflets, wallcharts and fact sheets on the different types of dried fruit and nutritional information. A vast recipe library has been established, providing the consumers and the press with ideas for healthy meals containing dried fruit. As a result dried fruit is acknowledged to be playing a wider role in most health conscious diets. The information service also helps students who are studying food technology or product development and often helps students with nutritional information, supplier's details and other information. One of the key objectives was to convey the message of dried fruit as a healthy alternative to sugar, particularly when trying to encourage the use of dried fruit in new product development. |
